Financial District
San Francisco’s Financial District, once the bustling core of the city’s business world, was hit hard by the shift to remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Office towers emptied out, foot traffic vanished, and many small businesses that served workers closed or struggled to survive. The area has since faced a slow and uneven recovery, with growing concern over vacant storefronts and safety perceptions. In response, the city and local groups have launched initiatives to bring people back—reimagining office space, adding public art, and encouraging new types of businesses and events. While still in transition, the district remains central to SF’s broader economic comeback.
